This advanced specialty workshop will equip practitioners with tools to assess and address dissociative identity phenomena and inner parts work.  Therapists will learn advanced concepts, techniques, and how to set-up the neuroexperiential processing of the client’s dissociative survival adaptations to work with their parts.  Therapists will deepen their responsiveness to the attachment, developmental, and traumatic wounding of their clients.

DIP Workshop participants will learn to:

1. Distinguish different types of dissociation and parts along the continuum of dissociative responses

2. Summarize the DID “Primer” foundations from the Brainspotting Phase 1 training

3. Recognize the impacts of attachment, developmental, neglect, and traumatic wounding

4. Identify the foundations of a developmental “diagnosis”

5. Evaluate when to do an assessment of dissociative adaptations and which instruments may be useful

6. Apply a series of Mosaic Inner Parts Exercises© with clients

7. Determine how to attune to the client’s self-system© through the lens of the 6 F’s of Trauma Response©

8. Modify the traditional DID and C-PTSD three-stage treatment model to provide more effective therapeutic interventions, while creatively following the client in the spirit of “being in the tail of the comet”

9. Employ Brainspotting principles as the primary foundation within the neuro-experiential dual attunement model when working with vulnerable folks with dissociative phenomena

10. Discover how the two-part dual frame© receives the frame and the self-system of the client

11. Illustrate metaphors for dissociative process with clients

12. Describe dissociative phenomena languaging to relate to a specific client’s language

13. Discern when to utilize standard Brainspotting techniques with dissociative adaptations and when to apply specialized Building Block DIP Therapeutic Activities© when needed

14. Implement a flexible therapeutic mapping of internal parts and insiders

15. Engage in an internal dissociative table technique through the application of Brainspotting

16. Integrate specialized scaffolding techniques to support the frame and the client’s self-system© to safely engage insiders and parts in trauma processing

17. Create levels of support responsive to differing suicide risks and self-states of suicidality

18. Navigate the complexity of unique dissociative self-system challenges

19. Conceptualize limbic countertransference within the 6F and dissociation framework

20. Develop a stance of humility in the repair of the therapeutic ruptures of mis-attunement, enactments, limbic countertransference, and stepping on landmines

21. Synthesize new Brainspotting techniques for use with dissociative identity phenomena and inner parts, including Advanced BlindSpotting© and setting up the Yellow Brick Road Technique©

Pre-Requisites: Brainspotting Phase 1 and 2 required. 

Continuing Education Information (CEs): 22.5 CE hours are available through EngagedMinds Continuing Education for those who attend live online (approved ASWB ACE, NBCC, and New York State Board for SW, LMHC, and Mental Health Practitioners). CEs may be purchased for $40 before the training begins- check back soon for link to purchase. It is the attendee's responsibility to check with their state/province licensing board to verify continuing education requirements, as well as the CE policies listed in the link above, before purchasing.

California Psychologists are eligible for 3 professional development hours per the Board of Psychology in California. All participants will be provided a Certificate of Completion for their attendance. You may send this certificate to your state board to determine if the hours can be used for license renewal.

Recording: This training will be recorded for training development purposes but will not be available for attendees to view.

About Connie Johnshoy- Currie

Connie Johnshoy-Currie, Psy.D., is a Licensed Psychologist in Southern California. Connie has been working with dissociative identity phenomena, as well as developmental, attachment, and traumatic injuries, since early 1980 with her masters degree. She has been trained in specialty work with dissociative phenomena.  Her specialization in work with children and adolescents has greatly enhanced her work with developmental disruption and young child and adolescent parts and insiders.  She has worked with clients experiencing dissociative phenomena with both EMDR and BSP effectively.

Her treatment specialty areas include PTSD, Complex PTSD and Dissociative Identity Phenomenon (DIP, DID), child and adolescents, developmental and structuralization internal work, parts work, and she works extensively with second responders (mental health providers). Dr. Johnshoy-Currie provides a monthly Networking Consultation Group in both Brainspotting (since 2008) and EMDR (since 1998), currently via zoom. She offers a monthly specialty consultation group for clinicians working with children and adolescents and for clinicians seeking to develop their competence in working with dissociative identity phenomenon and traumatic injury.
